Description
EPF (End Plate, FCD) is an AR15/M16 carbine end plate based on ESF-H1 (single socket QD swivel end plate), but without a QD swivel socket for those that don’t need one. This is an end plate and does not have a QD swivel socket.
Compared to a TDP spec 1018 or 1020 manganese phosphated MIM end plate, EPF is several times more expensive. Machining an end plate out of a solid block of 4140 accounts for much of the cost, the coating alone (DLC or Cerakote) is nearly 1/3 of the cost of the EPF. We can’t black nitride it (and make it very difficult to stake), and manganese phosphate isn’t as durable, so we chose DLC and Cerakote.
TDP end plate material is 1018 or 1020 mild steel, which is adequate since it doesn’t need to handle much load. We chose 4140 for ESF-H (3 socket end plate) and ESF-H1 (single socket end plate) because they are QD sling adapters that will see wear and load induced by the QD swivel and sling, 4140 has better strength and wear resistance. For EPF, we continue to use the better material (4140) even though EPF is not a QD swivel adapter. 4140 end plates also hold the staking better than mild steel.
EPF is not hardened or nitrided, either will make an end plate difficult to stake.
Machined in 4140, available in black DLC, or Cerakote FDE, Burnt Bronze and ODG.
Weight: 0.72 oz
Special thanks to Lander Salzberg of One Thousand Ships for suggesting we make an end plate for those that don’t need or use a QD socket, you can find Lander’s FB page here:
